Iver W. Blackwell

Iver W. Blackwell, 80, of Decatur, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026.

Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. A graveside memorial service with military honors will take place at a later date.

Iver was born on July 24, 1946 in Indianapolis, IN, the son of Roy Harold and Hazel Rosella (Powell) Blackwell, Sr. He married Carol Jane Dearman on June 24, 1976.

Iver served in the United States Army as an Armour Crewman in Germany and other places.

He worked as a bus driver for Decatur Public Transit, then as a custodian for Decatur Public School District 61 where he retired from. He enjoyed watching westerns and doing woodburning art.

Iver is survived his wife Carol Blackwell of Decatur; 2 daughters, Lisa (husband Andy) Bollhorst of Virginia and Julie (husband Riley) Cox of Decatur; 5 grandchildren, Zackary, Brandon, Alex, Hannah, and Emma; 6 great-grandchildren, Hayden, Matthew, Lucas, Carver, Abel, and Jamari, and 1 great-granddaughter on the way Kaitlynn; 2 brothers, Roy H. “Ray” Blackwell, Jr. and his wife Marsha, and Jerry Blackwell and his wife Gloria; 1 sister Sandra Hudson; and his cat Frederick (Freddy) Blackwell; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents; 2 brothers, Edward Matthews and Wilmer Matthews; and 1 great-grandson Grady; mother=in-law Rita Dearman; and father-in-law Robert Dearman.
