Ivan E. Benson, 88, of Cerro Gordo, IL, died 9:30 A.M., Monday, March 30, 2009, at Fair Havens Christian Home, Decatur, IL.Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Brintlinger & Earl Cerro Gordo Funeral Home, Cerro Gordo, IL. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M., Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Brintlinger and Earl Cerro Gordo Funeral Home, Cerro Gordo, IL. Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to: Donor's Choice.Ivan was born June 19, 1920, in Cisco, IL, the son of William and Helen (Ferry) Benson. He married Alma Jean Crisman on May 11, 1941 in St. Charles, MO. She preceded him in death in 2001.Ivan was self employed as a Concrete Contractor for 25 years. He loved fishing, hunting and gardening in his garden. Ivan was a member of the National Rifle Association.He is survived by his children Judy McGarrigle of Woonsocket, RI, Pat Gross and husband Mike of Cerro Gordo, IL, Dean Benson and wife Becky of Oakley, IL, Donna Fleener and husband Steve of Hammond, IL; son-in-law Harold Martin of Cerro Gordo, IL; grandchildren JoEllen Reed and husband Dick of Cerro Gordo, IL, Tony McGarrigle of Woonsocket, RI, Angela (Andy) McGarrigle of Maine, Joe McGarrigle and wife Lisa of Pennsylvania, Mary Fenner and husband Scott of Daytona, FL, Bill McGarrigle and wife Gina of Massachusetts, Kelley Larrick and husband Brad of Cerro Gordo, IL, Kim Akins and husband Keith of Missouri, Danney Martin and wife Frankie, Tim Benson and wife Stacey, Jenny Brandenburg and husband Trent, all of Cerro Gordo, IL, Marc Benson and wife Michelle of Chicago, IL, Scott Fleener and wife Amy of Sullivan, IL; 26 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; sisters Evelyn Suggs of Alabama, Bertice Dresback of Decatur, IL, Pearl Comerford of Cerro Gordo, IL, Barb Simpson and husband Jack of Hoopeston, IL; brother Leon Moe Benson of Monticello, IL.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Norma, grandsons Mike and Chad, 5 sisters and 2 brothers.The family would like to thank Fair Havens Christian Home for their care and compassion.Friends and Family of Ivan will always remember that cup of coffee at his kitchen table.Condolences may be left to the family at www.brintlingerandearl.com.
