Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 28, 2011, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 1 to 3 P.M., Sunday, February 27, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Memorials may be made to McKinley Court.Gene was born March 4, 1928 in Dalton City, Illinois, the son of Hubert and Bessie (Wallace) Cole. He married Ovilla Bernice Lawrence on February 1, 1953 in Mattoon Christian Church, Mattoon, IL. She preceded him in death on April 23, 2009.Gene was a member of Victory Baptist Church. He worked at Wagner Castings for 25 years as a heat treat operator, owned and operated Coles Standard Service Station and farmed. Gene loved traveling and camping. He was a U.S. Army Veteran.He is survived by his children Denis E. Cole and wife Debbie of Decatur, IL, James A. Cole and wife Irene of Largo, Florida, Phillip D. Cole and wife Sharon of Rustburg, VA, Nancy Cotner of Westervelt, IL, Brenda Bounds and husband Christopher of Loami, IL; 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; sisters Betty Jones of San Antonio, TX, Carolyn Munroe of Decatur, IL.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ovilla Bernice, brothers Wallace and Jack Cole, sister Helen Luzi, and son-in-law Mike Cotner.The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to the McKinley Court staff and volunteer Lisa Sims for their loving care and compassion given to their father.
