Howard Lawrence

Howard Wayne Lawrence claimed his heavenly reward on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the age of 83 at his home. He was born on September 12, 1930 in Cerro Gordo to Willard and Mary Jane (Lawyer) Lawrence. Howard married Rose Marie Fundy on March 24, 1950. She preceded him in death on June 24, 2010 after 60 wonderful years of marriage. Howard served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Following high school graduation he began working in the lab at ADM, where he remained until 1965. In 1954 he was named Treasurer of the ADM Credit Union; this would lead to a career opportunity with the Illinois Credit Union League in 1965, from which he retired as Executive Vice President of Credit Union Support in 1992. Howard was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Golden K of Decatur. He is survived by his children: son Mark (Joy Doll) Lawrence of Long Creek and daughter Diane (Mike) Fryman of Decatur; grandchildren: Shawn (Brook Bartels) Lawrence of Macon, IL, Brian (Laura Dersch) Lawrence of Asheville, NC, Kelly Fryman (fiancé Adam Milledge) of Columbia, SC, Ellen (Mel) Bower of Carbondale, IL and Molly Fryman of Oxford, MS; great- grandchildren: Riley, Mary Etta Rose, Autumn, Brennan, and new great-grandson arriving in April. Howard also leaves behind Mark's step-daughter Mollyann Wagoner and granddaughter Emma. Howard is survived by siblings, Wanda Lawrence of Decatur, Sharon (Milton)Jendry; Niece Crystal (Todd) Alexander, nephew Karl Jendry, great-nephews: Ty and Ethan Alexander all of Monticello, IL. Howard's family will be available to share and celebrate his life on Saturday, March 8, 2014. This informal gathering will be from 11:00am - 1:00pm, in the Great Hall of Grace United Methodist Church, 901 S. Main Street. Decatur, IL. A light lunch buffet will be available.
