Homer Gene Franklin, 73, of Decatur, IL, passed away Friday, February 3, 2017 in his home.Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 10, with military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Bethlehem Presbyterian Church or Project Read.Homer was born August 22, 1943 in Hillsboro, IL, son of Roy Franklin and Margaret Cravens Batchelder. He married Virginia Harmon on February 14, 1965.Homer served his county in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. He enjoyed watching Fox News, target shooting, and playing guitar when he was younger. Homer was a member of South Macon Lodge 467 AF & AM, and was affiliated with Bethlehem Presbyterian Church.Surviving are his wife 51 years, Virginia of Decatur, IL; daughter Erin Thompson of Decatur, IL; sister Carolyn Fitzgerald of Palmer, AK; sisters-in-law Marilyn Franklin of Idaho and Ellen Mahnke of St. Augustine, FL; several nieces and nephews.Homer was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jerry Franklin, and son-in-law George Thompson III.
