Herschel Day

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, May 3, 2010 at Brintlinger and Earl Cerro Gordo Funeral Home, Cerro Gordo, IL. Visitation will be 4 to 6 P.M., Sunday, May 2, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Cemetery, Cerro Gordo, IL.Memorials may be made to Decatur Memorial Hospital Hospice.Herschel was born on October 23, 1928, in Atwood, IL, to Thomas H. and Mabel S. (Monroe) Day. He married Lois Ellen Lanter on February 14, 1960, in Cerro Gordo, IL and recently celebrated their 50th anniversary together.He graduated from Hammond High School in 1947 and retired from Caterpillar in 1987 after 32 years. He also spent 5 years driving the bus for the Piatt County Head Start program. He enjoyed coaching baseball for his children, watching his grandchildren grow up, and attending as many harness races as possible. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildrens sporting events and took great pride in maintaining his yard.He is survived by his wife, four children, seven grandchildren and two brothers: Mike and his wife Jana of Pana, IL (Mandy and Michelle); Darrell and his wife Sherri of Pittsboro, IN (Josh); Rick and his wife Jennifer of West Grove, PA (Becca and Alex); and Debbie and her husband Rob of Cerro Gordo (Brady and Devon); brother James and his wife Betty of Hammond, IL; and brother Richard and his wife Evelyn of Downs, IL.Herschel was preceded in death by his parents, son Brian Keith Day and daughter Sheila K.
