Helen M. Lundstrom, 81, of Lake Barrington, IL, passed away Thursday, February 18 at Imboden Creek Gardens in Decatur.Helen was born August 5, 1934 in Freeport, IL, the daughter of Lloyd S. and Mary M. (Waller) McNabb. She was an award-wining kitchen designer in the Chicago area, with many of her kitchens featured in magazines such as Better Homes and Gardens. Earlier in life, she taught at Stephen Decatur High School, was a Junior High guidance counselor and was an administrator at the University of Northern Colorado. She was a graduate of Cottey College and the University of Illinois and held a Master of Science in Education from Millikin University. She was also a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an honorary society for educators.Helen was a loving mother and grandmother who valued spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed reading and participating in book clubs, playing bridge, gardening and baking with her grandchildren. She was active in her local P.E.O. chapter and was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Barrington.Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM Monday, February 22 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Decatur, with burial following at Fairlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, February 21 from 3:00-6:00 PM in Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home. Flowers may be sent to Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Chapter KF PEO.Surviving are her sons, Gary Hein and wife Lisa, Douglas Hein and wife Leslie of Decatur; grandchildren Harrison, Preston, Helden, Loren, Christopher, Alexander, Veronica, Valerie, Jennifer and Lauren; step-children Bradley, Christa, Jeffrey and Marne; three great grandchildren and many friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert, husband Myles Lundstrom, daughter Leslie Morris and grandson Geoffrey Morris.The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Imboden Creek Gardens, DMH Hospice and especially Susan Brinkoetter Bird and her kind and loving caregivers.
