Harold Vernon Tarr, 83, of Decatur, IL, formerly of Springfield, IL ,entered eternal rest on December 17, 2018 at Imboden Creek Living Center, Decatur. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 2155 N. Oakland Avenue, Decatur. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, December 21 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, and also one hour prior to service time at the church on Saturday. Graveside services will be 12:00 noon, Saturday, December 22 at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield, IL. Memorials may be made to Pilgrim Lutheran Church or to the family. Harold was born May 21, 1935 in Springfield, IL, the son of Fred W. and Pearl I. (Lanham) Tarr. He started working for Sangamo Construction in 1952. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1953 and continued to work for Sangamo Construction until March 19, 1956 when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served at Camp Pendleton California and was discharged on March 19, 1958, where he returned to Springfield and back to work for Sangamo Construction Co. He left Sangamo Construction and Springfield in July 1966 and moved to Decatur where he worked for Neal Lentz Construction (Bridge Builders and General Improvement, Inc. Sewer Construction) in Elwin, IL. He worked both in the office and the field until General Improvement closed its doors in August 1985. He then worked for Bodine Construction and Goodmar, Inc. until April 1987 when he purchased his own business, Air Clean Filter Service which he operated and managed until retirement in April 2000. He married Linda Faye Arney from Southwest City, MO on March 19, 1960. They had four children: Leslie, Sherri, Ryan and Vicki. They were married 43 years when she preceded him in death November 12, 2003. Harold loved to hunt, fish, camp and travel. He was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, July 1966 until present where he served as usher, Church Council member, Financial Secretary, Auditor and several years as Church Elder. He played softball many years for Pilgrim Softball team and was high school boys basketball coach for ten years. Surviving are daughters: Leslie Jean (Steve) Johnson, Rockford, IL, Sherri Ann (Bill) Orr, Reddick, IL, Vicki Rae (Alex) Wegmann, Decatur, IL; one son, Ryan Lee (Kimberley) Tarr, Georgetown, IN; sister-in-law, Jeannie Martin, of Southwest City, MO; granddaughters, Taylor, McLean, Anna Johnson, Jordan, Madison Orr, Katie Tarr, Gabriele Wegmann; grandsons, Evan Johnson, Seth, Logan Orr, Zackarey (Maji) Koetter-Ali, Reese Tarr, Davis, Marco, Mattias Wegmann; great grandson Sloan Koetter-Ali; niece Toi Heatley; nephew, Kelly Ewton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda and father and mother.
