Harold Simcox

Dean was born on June 17, 1930 in Sandoval, IL to Harold James and Thelma (Hopkins) Simcox. They and his sister Martha Sue proceeded him in death. He attended Sandoval HS and the University of Illinois. Mid career he completed his AA degree at Richland CC in Decatur. Dean was a mineral and land right-of-way manager, initially in the oil business in Evansville, IN. He was active in the International Right of Way Association. In 1962 he began a long and successful management career at Illinois Power. After retiring in 1989, Dean consulted for local governments, Ameren IP and CIPS.In addition to his business career, Deans life was defined by his faith, community service and his family and friends. He was an excellent athlete, being in the Sandoval HS Sports Hall of Fame for basketball and baseball. He is also honored as an official by the IHSA for his many years of service as a referee. He loved golf, the Illini, Cubs and Bears.He served in many volunteer and committee capacities, including teaching Sunday School, at Central Christian Church in Decatur where he was a member since 1962 and a Decon Emertitis. Dean was a model community leader where his strong work ethic was again evident. He served as Chair of Decatur Habitat for Humanity and on the Board of Directors for Dove Inc., a local social services agency. He was also on the Board of Belvedere Centre Plaza, a faith-based housing project. His expertise in real estate contracts was generously provided and important to all these organizations. He and his wife Susie gave many hours and love to these and others in need in the community.Dean is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years and high school sweetheart, Marilyn Rose Susie (Woolbright) of Centralia, IL. He is also survived by his children: Paul David and wife Ruth Ann (Blackburn) of Washington Crossing, PA, Kimberly Anne Teschner of Decatur, Kevin Dean and wife Mary (Dennis) of West Des Moines, IA, and Mindora Sue and husband Jack Abell of St. Louis, MO, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Included in his extended family is Will Oostrom of The Netherlands and the Dorothy Cobb and Evelyn Gasber families of Decatur.Condolences can be left to the family at www.brintlingerandearl.com "
