Miss Grace Karl, 100, of Evanston, IL died on Wednesday, January 4, 2017.Grace Louise Karl was born February, 7, 1916 in rural Macon County, Illinois to Otto and Blanche (Webb) Karl. She was the youngest of six daughters.Grace grew up in the Mt. Zion area and graduated from Illinois State University, Normal in 1938 with a degree in Education. She later received a Master’s degree from the University of Iowa in 1948 and a Master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Illinois in 1968.Grace taught English in several Illinois high schools beginning at Heyworth in 1938, later moving to Pontiac and eventually to New Trier in Evanston in 1950 where she remained for 35 of her total 48 year career. Upon completing the Library Science degree, she began the transition to the New Trier Library where she remained until her retirement in 1986.Grace traveled extensively including 13 trips to Europe where she traced the Karl family roots in Germany. She stayed a month or more on several of her trips to Paris, France and London, England.Grace, a hard working, thrifty person gave generously over the years to many charities and was especially proud to be a charter member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C.She was preceded in death by her parents and 5 sisters, Marie Calvert, Bertha Moore, Beulah Karl (infant), Letha Tish and Edith Morr. She leaves 8 of her original13 nieces and nephews.Services for Miss Karl will be held at Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church, Mt. Zion, IL at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 9, 2017. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes, Decatur, is assisting the family.The family would like to thank Three Crowns Park, Evanston; Journey Care of Glenview; and especially her private caregivers Janet Reschke and Laverne Dock of Home Instead Senior Care in Skokie "
