Gordon Clark

Gordon Clarke, most recently of Phoenix, Arizona, died Thursday, September 1st, 2016. He was 93 years old.A private family graveside service will be held at Boiling Springs Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes, Decatur, are assisting the family with the arrangements.Gordon was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1923. While a student at the University of Illinois, he met Virginia Bear, of Decatur. They both graduated from the University in May of 1943 and were married shortly afterward, as was not unusual for couples of that era. Gordon, having been in ROTC, immediately entered into active service. The newlyweds had several homes around the country, as the army moved Gordon around. In 1945 he went overseas and saw the end of the war from Okinawa.Upon returning to the States, Gordon rejoined Virginia in Illinois. Gordon resumed his studies at the U of I, completing his Master’s and Doctoral degrees. The couple moved to Oregon in 1950, where Gordon had secured a teaching position. He taught for nearly 30 years, as a professor at Oregon colleges and universities.Gordon was preceded in death by his loving wife Virginia in 2013. He will be laid to rest with her at Boiling Springs Cemetery.They are survived by their three sons, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. "
