Gloria Shelton

Gloria J. Shelton, 90, of Champaign, formerly of Crawfordsville, IN, passed away on January 20, 2018 surrounded by her family.A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 27, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Inurnment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials in Gloria’s honor may be given to Woodland Heights Christian Church, Crawfordsville, IN or Carle Hospice, Urbana, IL. Gloria was born May 30, 1927 in Oreana, IL, the daughter of Cloyd Ivan and Dorothy O. (England) Mechling. She married Jackie E. Shelton on February 1, 1947 in Champaign. They were married 65 years before he preceded her in death on November 12, 2012. Gloria was a secretary and bookkeeper for 20 years. She enjoyed genealogy research, flower gardening, and travel. She played high school softball and on a travel softball team after high school. She was a member of Woodland Heights Christian church in Crawfordsville, IN, American Legion Auxiliary, and volunteered as a “Pink Lady” at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca A. Aldridge of Champaign; son, Terry (Diane) Shelton of Elkhart, IN; grandchildren, Brian J. (Lisa) Shelton, Kimberly A Crawford, Jeff Aldridge and Melissa Aldridge; and great grandchildren, Zachary Shelton, Roxanna Shelton, Liam Crawford, and Caleb Aldridge.Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jackie Shelton; sister and brother-in-law, Warren and Roberta Crews; and brother and sister-in-law, Robert H. “Jack” and Alice Mechling. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the home health aides and the nurses of Carle Hospice for their wonderful care of Gloria. "
