Gladys Virginia Nisbet, 83, of Decatur, IL, passed into paradise at 2:27 A.M., Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Decatur Memorial Hospital with family and friends supporting her on her journey. Memorial services will be 3:00 P.M., Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1360 W. Main, Decatur, IL, with Pastor Dave Taylor officiating. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate her life will follow the service. In accordance with her wishes, Gladys will be cremated with inurnment next to the love of her life, Sam, at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Terre Haute, IN. The family is being served by Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes contributions be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church. Gladys was born July 9, 1928, in Clinton, IN, the daughter of Leo and Versa Huffman. Gladys graduated from Clinton High School, Clinton, IN, in 1946 with a scholarship to business school for her impressive skills and speed of typing. She met and fell in love with Sam not long after graduating. They were married on January 28, 1949, at the First Presbyterian Church in Clinton, IN where she was a member. She followed Sam to Decatur where he was to start his teaching career in IL. She became involved in the Public School system by taking office as president of Dennis School PTA. She was also involved as a room mother and helped with Cub Scouts. She became a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in 1955 where she was an Elder, Deacon, Circle and Cheer Guild president and secretary. She attended and was involved in Youth Fellowship and organized and cooked many meals for the church. She was a member of the Business & Professional Womens Association and the local Eastern Star Chapter. Gladys retired from Millikin University in 1983 where she worked in the Registrar's office. Gladys was a caring and generous woman to all who met her. She was a treasure and bright star in her families lives. She met her goals in life of being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother! She loved having lunch with friends, crocheting and cooking. Surviving are her son David and wife Jan of Rome, GA; daughter Nancy and husband Dennis E. Minks of Decatur, IL; grandsons Joshua Minks and wife Laura of O'Fallon, MO, Samuel David Nisbet, William Henry Nisbet, both of Rome, GA; great granddaughters Isabella Marie Minks and Emma Renee Minks; brother Earl Huffman (Gloria) of Monroe, WI, Robert Huffman (Holly) of Irving, TX; sisters Cheryl Huffman of Cincinnati, OH, Wretha Purdy (Paul) of Clinton, IN; and many friends who also loved her. She had many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Sam, both parents, one sister Carolyn, one brother Ray. The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Fritz and office staff for all the care and concern she received for many years, and also the staff at Hickory Point Healthcare and Heartland Healthcare Center. A special thank you also to Pastor Dave Taylor for his visits, prayers, concerns, and the friendship he gave Gladys in these past few months. "
