Geraldine Lamb Nelson, 85, of Decatur, IL, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Tabor Hills Nursing Home, Naperville, IL. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 7, at First Presbyterian Church, Decatur, IL, Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 204 W. Prairie Ave., Decatur, IL 62523. Mrs. Nelson was born April 10, 1927 in Murrayville, IL, the daughter of Arthur Dean and Bertha (Miller) Lamb. She was raised in Murrayville and Peoria, IL and graduated from Bradley University with a Bachelor's Degree in elementary education. She taught school in Germantown, IL, Modesto, CA, and Decatur at Durfee School. She married Walter Irwin Nelson on May 10, 1958 in Peoria, IL. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church participating in Presbyterian Women and Womens Circles, Good Samaritan Inn, delivering Meals on Wheels, and worked in the kitchen at First Presbyterian. She was a school volunteer and active in PTA at Parsons Elementary. Mrs. Nelson was active in the Shemamo Council of Girl Scouts, acting as a cookie chairman for many years and assistant troop leader. Mrs. Nelson was a member of the Stephen Decatur Chapter National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Alumni in Decatur. She enjoyed her weekly Friday luncheon group of her long time friends. Mrs. Nelson enjoyed attending the many cultural events at Millikin University, and ballroom dance classes. In the 2 years since leaving Decatur she missed her many long time friends. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Nelson of Arlington Heights, IL; son John Nelson and wife Jane of Naperville, IL; grandchildren: Jeremy Bell and wife Emily, Adam Bell, Rachel Nelson and Samuel Nelson and great-granddaughter, Morgan Bell, cousins Betty (Lamb) Korsmeyer and Pat (Moran) Connelly and their families.
