Gerald Hawkins

Gerald “Jerry” D. Hawkins, 74, of Decatur, IL, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019, at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to University of Chicago Medicine, 5235 S. Harper Ct., 4th floor, Chicago, IL 60615. Jerry was born September 3, 1944, in Decatur, IL, the son of Delmar and Vena (Bertram) Hawkins. He married Bonnie Carol Wrighthouse on October 5, 1968 in Decatur, IL. Jerry served in the National Guard for six years. He worked at Mueller Company, retiring after 46 plus years, and loved to tinker with his cars and play golf. Jerry was a doting grandfather. He loved watching his grandsons play hockey and his granddaughter figure skate. He is survived by his wife Bonnie of 50 years; daughter Tara Hawkins Eggers and husband Matt , grandchildren Campbell, Cal, and Finny, all of Lake Forest, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Todd, and sister Janet.
