George Daniel Poling, 85, of Decatur, IL passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 15, 2014, at the Second Church of God in Decatur, IL. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 14, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home in Decatur, IL. Burial will be at the East Frantz Cemetery, Cerro Gordo, IL, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Second Church of God or Wounded Warriors. George was born on June 27, 1928 in Cerro Gordo, IL, the son of Dewey George and Melvina Irene (Gharrett) Poling. He married Dorothy Vonetta Salmons on January 17, 1954 in Cerro Gordo, IL and she preceded him in death on April 28, 1987. He remarried on June 30, 2001 to Janet Garratt of San Antonio, TX. George was a bridge crane operator at Wagner Castings, retiring after 31 years of service. He was a Korean war veteran, receiving a purple heart and 3 bronze battle stars. He was a member of Second Church of God of Decatur. George is survived by his wife Janet of San Antonio, TX; children Sheree (Jim) Schinzler, Brenda Haenig, and Faron (Lisa) Poling all of Decatur, IL, Christie (Ed) Perry of Mt. Zion, IL; brothers Melvin (Pat) Poling of Decatur, IL, and Allen (Jeanelle) Poling of Milmine, IL; sisters Shirley (Jim) Moeller of Zelma, MO and Sharon Foulks of Mt. Zion, IL; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. George was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, and infant son. "
