George A. Miller, Sr., 78, of Niantic, IL, passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 25, 2014. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at Niantic Christian Church. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 28, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Burial will be in Long Point Cemetery, Niantic, IL. Memorial donations may be made to: Ron & Vicki Santo Diabetic Alert Dog Foundation. George was born January 21, 1936, the son of Herman and Clara (Arnold) Miller. He married Susanna Carter on May 10, 1964. George graduated from Niantic High School in 1953. He worked for Wagner Castings before becoming a full time farmer in rural Niantic. George was a member of the Niantic Christian Church, National Berkshire Association, and the Moose Lodge. George's profession may have been farming, but his passion was with his pigs. He traveled from fair to fair in the summer, especially the Illinois State Fair for over 50 years to show his precious pigs. He also enjoyed coon hunting, fishing and just about anything that would allow him to be outdoors. He was also a lifelong diehard Cub fan. Surviving are his wife "Susie" of 50 years; siblings: Jake and Dan of Niantic, Jean and Lois of Decatur; children: Carol (Dan) Stahl, George Jr. (Krystle) Miller of Niantic, Andrew (Angie) Miller of Mt. Auburn; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. The family wishes to thank all of George's friends for taking the time to come visit with him during his long journey. You will never know how much your visits would brighten his day. And to all the medical staff and doctors for their patience, kindness and tiresome work in taking care of George. Finally, we would like to express our thanks to all those who volunteer for the Niantic Fire Department for their professionalism and guidance during our time of need. "
