George D. Matherly, Jr., 74, of Decatur, IL, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur, IL.Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 11, 2016, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, April 10, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL. The family requests casual attire.Memorials may be made to American Heart Association.George was born November 20, 1941 in Decatur, IL, the son of George D., Sr. and Alice (Henderson) Matherly. He married Patricia Pruitt and she was the love of his life for 49 years.George owned and operated Geo.’s Standard Service in Decatur and Argenta from 1964 – 1988. He came to Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes in the fall of 1989 to continue his passion for working on old cars, before retiring in 2001. He loved NASCAR, going to Daytona, picking on Gene, and taking his old cars to car shows all over Central IL. He is survived by his wife Pat of Decatur; sons George (Kim) Matherly, III of Urbana, IL, Jimmy (fiancee’ Holly) Matherly of Oreana, IL; daughters Tricia Maxwell of England, AR, Georgia Mahr (Cliff) of Denver, NC; grandchildren Sarah, George IV, Dakota, Ashley, Anna, Braxton, & Brayden; great grandchildren Gunner, Zoey, Caden & Idella; sister Marilyn (Gene) Timmerman of Oakley, IL, and siblings Melody (Jim) Ireland, Kathy Allen, & Georgia (Steve) Sefton, all of Decatur area; and many special nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.The family would like to give a special thank you to Julie & Evans of the 6th floor cardiac unit at St. Mary’s Hospital for their care and compassion given to George.Condolences may be left to the family in care of Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home at www.brintlingerandearl.com "
