George Orville Chester, 100, a 55-year resident of Decatur, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2016, at home in Salinas, California, surrounded by his loving family.Born on March 25, 1916 in Omaha, NE, he was the son of Orville and Clara (Boorman) Chester. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis and worked for his entire career as an electrical engineer and manager with the Illinois Power Company (now Ameren Illinois). He was a longtime member of Central Christian Church, where he taught the Keystone adult class, a longtime volunteer at Fair Havens Christian Home, and a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.He married Marjorie Elizabeth Chastain, who had been a classmate at Benson High School in Omaha, in 1939; she preceded him in death in 1990. He is survived by his two sons, Craig and Ronald, and the latter's wife Supattra, of Salinas, CA.An interment service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on November 29, 2016, at Macon County Memorial Park, 5700 W. Main St., Decatur.Memorials may be made to Central Christian Church or Fair Havens Christian Home. "
