Gayle Darlene Sablotny, 58, passed away peacefully in her home in Decatur on Friday, December 3, 2010. She is now in her heavenly home with her late parents Albert Obbie and Faye Stern Sablotny. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 2727 N. Unions Blvd., Decatur, the Rev. Russell J. Weise officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes, 2827 N. Oakland Ave., Decatur. Burial will be at Macon County Memorial Park. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home are handling the arrangements. Gayle was a talented artist and teacher. At the time of her death, she served as art director and art teacher for the Lutheran School Association, Decatur, Illinois. The murals that grace the halls in the LSA facility testify to her God-given talents and her desire to serve and glorify the Lord. In addition to teaching, she served as advisor to many activities at LSA and at her church, St. Johns Lutheran Church, Decatur. Her designs and artwork were used for community, church, and school events in Decatur and for the Central Illinois District of the Lutheran ChurchMissouri Synod. Ms. Sablotny received numerous awards for her graphic design projects. Gayle loved her students, her friends, her family, and her pets. Her life was one of service to others reflecting her love for her Lord Jesus Christ. Gayle grew up in Decatur and attended Lutheran grade schools. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. She graduated from Eisenhower High School. She received her degree in art education from Eastern Illinois University. Her first teaching position was in Ohio, Illinois. She did graduate work at Illinois State University. In 2003 she completed the colloquy program from Concordia University, River Forest. Prior to teaching at LSA, Ms. Sablotny worked for the Decatur Herald and Review and Wood Printing Service in Decatur. She also worked for Nichols Advertising, Decatur. Gayle is survived by her aunts Lois Stern Irion, Savoy, Illinois, and Joanna Stern Lange, Indianapolis, Indiana; cousins and many devoted friends, colleagues, and brothers and sisters in Christ.
