Gary Lee Trusner, 79, of Decatur passed away on April 12, 2015. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, April 16, 2015, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, with visitation 6-8 P.M. Wednesday, April 15, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Harristown Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Gary was born September 5, 1935, in Appleville, IL, the son of Enoch and Ida (Brannock) Trusner. He married Glenda (Dial) Trusner, of Decatur, on May 18, 1957. A 1953 graduate of Niantic High School, Gary went to work at Illinois Power Company. He was a member of the US Army Reserve and was called up during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. Contracting Hodgkin's Disease while serving active duty, Sgt. Trusner was hospitalized and discharged as a disabled veteran and then became involved in the Disabled American Veteran's and American Legion's causes supporting America's veterans. Gary was also the owner and proprieter of Trusner Motors and Car Wash as well as various other businesses. An avid golfer, Gary enjoyed playing both locally and when vacationing in Florida. The sport provided the chance to generate many lasting friendships. He also enjoyed classic cars and the joys of being a grandfather to his four grandchildren. Surviving are his loving family including his wife, Glenda; son, Greg and wife Cindy of Edmond, OK; daughter, Lisa Wallace and husband John of Plano, TX; grandchildren: Erin Trusner Wentroth and husband Austin Wentroth, Jonathan Wallace, Meghan Wallace and Hilary Wallace. Also surviving are his brothers Roger and wife Kathy of Decatur and Charles of Niantic. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Joyce and Sandra, and brother Leland. The family would also like to thank the staffs of Lincolnshire Place Memory Care Center and Safe Haven Hospice for the support they have provided Gary and the immediate family. "
