Gary Shambaugh

Gary L. Shambaugh, 58, of Lovington, IL, passed away at 12:18 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with visitation 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Cemetery, Cerro Gordo, IL. Memorials may be made to the Cerro Gordo Fire Protection District or to Piatt County Transportation Piattran. Gary was born May 21, 1953, in Decatur, IL, the son of L. Lehman and Betty (Eads) Shambaugh. He married Phyllis Fleener on July 1, 1978, in Hammond, IL. He was a engineer for the Norfolk Southern Railroad from 1972-2004 and also farmed all of his life in the Cerro Gordo area. He enjoyed working on cars and trucks. Surviving are his wife Phyllis of Lovington, IL; mother Betty of Cerro Gordo, IL; daughters Sarah Shambaugh of Decatur, IL and Kendra Shambaugh of Lovington, IL; sisters Vicki Shambaugh of Honolulu and Laura Hoffman and husband Tim of Oakley, IL; brothers-in-law Mike Fleener and wife Mickey of Lake City, IL and Steve Fleener and wife Donna of Hammond, IL; several nieces and nephews; and his granddog Baxter Lynn Shambaugh. He was preceded in death by his father and niece Crystal (Cricket) Pote. Gary had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playing practical jokes and giving people a hard time.
