Gary Lee Pate, 76, of Decatur, passed away peacefully of Wednesday, September 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Gary’s life during the visitation on Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. followed by a Trisagion Service at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 5, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, with burial to follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. Memorials in Gary’s honor may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church or Cancer Care Specialist of Illinois.

He was born May 23, 1950, in Decatur, the son of Benjamin L. and Wilma A. (Whightsil) Pate. Gary grew up with a strong work ethic, a big heart, and a love for people. He married the love of his life, Maria Dalmares, on July 17, 1973, and together they built a life filled with family, faith, laughter, and adventure.

Gary began his career working as a warehouse manager for Van Pickerill before moving into the automotive industry where he spent the majority of his career as a Service Manager. His friendly nature and easy smile made him a natural. He retired from Landmark Automotive in 2019. Outside of work, Gary was a proud member of Southside Country Club and being avid golfer never turned down a chance to golf. He cherished the friendships he made there. He was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Decatur and participated in many Greek Activities. He loved traveling especially cruises and never missed a Cardinals game or a Fighting Illini game.

Gary leaves behind his devoted wife, Maria Pate of Decatur; his 2 children, Gary L. Pate Jr. of Springfield, IL and Jacquelyn (James) Duies of Seattle, WA; his brothers, Benjamin Leo (Cheryl) Pate of Oreana, IL and Bob Taylor of Tuscola, IL; his grandpuppy Jake Duies; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents; 2 brothers, Samuel D. Pate and Raymond H. Pate, Sr; and sister Catherine J. Pate.
