Gary R Morgan, 78, of Assumption, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025.
Visitation will be Monday, January 13, 2025, from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home in Decatur, IL. Funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 PM. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, in Decatur, IL. Memorial donations can be made to Second Chance for Pets in Clinton IL, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Gary was born January 27, 1946, the son of George R and Eva M (Washburn) Morgan. He married his wife Sharon in Decatur, IL.
He joined the United States Army in 1965, and bravely faced many challenges and demonstrated unwavering courage in the Vietnam War. After proudly serving his country, he worked as a general foreman at Norfolk Southern in Decatur, IL, for 37 years.
An avid fisherman, Gary would travel across the United States and Canada going on fishing trips. He was passionate about crappie fishing, and in his retirement, he proudly made his own crappie jigs and fishing rods, which he shared with his family. He enjoyed collecting guns, shooting skeet, and target shooting. Most of all, Gary loved his 3 daughters (Gary’s Girls), grandbabies, and family.
Gary is survived by his daughters Raychelle Morgan, Kandy (Kenny) Smith, Teta Morgan; stepchildren Jerry Newberry, June Wilsman, Jenny (Marty) Le Hew, James (Crystal) Newberry; sisters Sharlene (Art) Hemmerlein, Darlene (Doug) Binge; grandchildren Robert (Marissa) Smith, April (Mike) Smith, Whitney (Jeremy) Williams, Olivia (Jared) Redding, Michael (Jessica) Wilsman, Emily (Carlos) Stuart, Nate Le Hew, Alli Wilsman, and Noah Thompson – whom he had a very special bond with.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald Morgan, and wife Sharon Morgan.
