Gary M. Emery, 78, of Punta Gorda, FL, formerly of Forsyth, IL, died at 11:50 AM Saturday, October 13, 2012, in Punta Gorda, FL. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, October 18, 2012, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 5 to 7 P.M., Wednesday, October 17, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL. Gary was born March 7, 1934 in Decatur, IL, the son of Chester F. and Vivian J. (Metzler) Emery. He married Norma Kellogg on October 27, 1961 in Decatur, IL. She preceded him in death on June 23, 2001. Gary worked construction as a millwright for various general contractors in the Decatur area. After retiring from construction work, he then worked for 15 years at the Village of Forsyth as Maintenance Supervisor. He enjoyed fishing in Florida, woodworking, square-dancing and visiting his son Brian in Greece. Gary was a U.S. Army veteran. Gary was a member of Carpenters' Union Local #742, and had served as a Village of Forsyth Board Member. He was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the "Boots and Bows" square dance club. He is survived by his sons: Craig (Heather) Emery of Punta Gorda, FL, and Brian (Elpida) Emery, of Athens, Greece; two grandchildren: Fotis Emery, and Anna Louise Emery, of Athens, Greece; and one brother Dennis (Joyce) Emery, of Ames, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Norma. "
