Fred served in the United States Army with combat service during the Vietnam War with the 1st Cavalry Division. Fred was a Final Inspector on the tire assembly line at the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company factory in Decatur, IL for just under 30 years, retiring prior to the plant's closure. Later, he spent many years providing facility maintenance support at the Piatt County Nursing Home in Monticello, IL.

While Fred enjoyed camping, NASCAR, the Chicago Bears, and Chicago Cubs, he gained the most life satisfaction through time spent with his wife and three sons, raising them in Milmine, IL. Over the years, he was regularly heard conversing about the immense pride he took in nurturing them to become self-sustaining members of society. He leaves behind a close network of family and friends.

The family would like to personally thank Ali from Transitions Care for providing exceptional hospice care during Fred's final days.
