Fred Starbody

Fred Eugene “Gene” Starbody, 88, of Decatur, IL, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Memorial visitation will be 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with graveside services at 11:30 a.m. in Mt. Gilead Cemetery, Decatur, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to DMH Hospice. Fred was born January 11, 1929, in Decatur, IL, the son of Frank Max and Thelma Marie (Owens) Starbody. He married Nancy A. Bartlett on October 14, 1949 in Decatur. She preceded him in death on February 5, 2014. Fred retired from A.E. Staley, after 37 years of service and was a member of Staley Retirees Club and Foreman’s Club. He was an avid golfer, was a caddy at Nelson Park when he was younger and enjoyed playing golf at Nelson Park. Fred also was an avid Cardinal fan, and enjoyed U of I basketball games.He is survived by his children Karen (Steve) Bellinger of Oreana, John Craig (Cindy) Starbody of Decatur, Terry Eugene (Becky) Starbody of Decatur, Frank (Lori) Starbody of Maroa; 9 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; siblings Doris Carr of Decatur, Lindi (Starbody) Tom Howe of Hillsborough, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nancy, three brothers and one sister. The family would like to give special thanks to DMH Hospice Staff for their wonderful care and compassion to Gene. "
