Fred Kasten

Fred August Kasten, 86, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. There will be a family gathering at a later date. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes, Decatur, are assisting the family. Fred was born June 13, 1928, in Midlothian, IL, son of Fred Charles and Bertha (Braasch) Kasten. He married Caroline Elizabeth Scowcroft on June 5, 1954, in Palos Heights, IL. She preceded him in death. Fred was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Cadillac dealers for 30 years including Tallman Cadillac in Decatur and Sam Taylor Cadillac in Fort Walton Beach, Fl. and retired in 1995. He loved driving the truck for the Ft. Walton Beach Viking band. Fred was a NASCAR fan for many years. Surviving are his children: Sally Sarah Weber and husband Steve of Decatur, IL, Thelma Collins of Greensboro, GA, James Kasten of Catlin, IL; grandchildren: Elizabeth Goin (Joe Brennen) of Maroa, IL; great-grandchildren: Katherine Goin, Dominick Brennan, Brandin Kasten, and Sarah Kasten. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Merlin and Howard, and sister Laverne. "
