Floyd Gene Eads, 85, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Villas at Hickory Point in Forsyth, IL.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2026, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home in Decatur, IL. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Life Pregnancy Center, Gentiva Hospice, or the American Cancer Society.
Floyd was born October 8, 1940, in Decatur, IL, the son of Paul and L. Marie (Rife) Eads. He graduated from Warrensburg-Latham High School in 1958. On August 19, 1962, he married Shirley J. Stuart in Boody, IL. She preceded him in death on October 9, 2006.
Floyd worked as a pipefitter at A.E. Staley for more than 30 years before retiring. After retirement, he served for many years as sexton of Boiling Springs Cemetery, where he had spent much of his life helping his father. He was a member of Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church, serving faithfully as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and music leader when needed. More recently, he attended Summit Fellowship closer to home.
Floyd enjoyed deer hunting, mowing on his John Deere tractor, playing all kinds of games, attending his high school class lunches, and watching John Wayne and western movies. After retirement, he also enjoyed serving as the “neighborhood watch,” keeping an eye on the neighborhood.
He is survived by his three daughters, Paula Eads of Decatur, IL, Peggy (Chris) Miller of Argenta, IL, and Patty (Doug) Saal of Normal, IL; three grandchildren, Anna (Blake) Ashby, Macy (Tyler) Hemmen, and Evan Miller; six great-grandchildren; brother, Dean Eads of Fairborn, OH; two sisters-in-law, Linda Eads of Mt. Carrol, IL, and Elaine (Dan) Coffman of Chipley, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Ralph Eads; several special brothers- and sisters-in-law; and a niece and nephew.
The family would like to thank his kind Boiling Springs neighbors, The Arc of Hickory Point, Regal Transportation and Gentiva Hospice for the special care given to him.
