Fern Minott

Fern Joan Minott, 90, of Decatur, passed away peacefully Friday, June 11, 2021. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:30 – 11:00 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Westside Cemetery, Moweaqua. Memorials in Fern’s honor may be made to New Life Pregnancy Center or Faith Baptist Church of South Shores. Fern was born April 28, 1931, in Decatur, daughter of John B. and Hattie (Benjamin) Gillespey. She married Robert Minott on May 25, 1950; he preceded her in death on December 14, 2000. Fern was a member of Faith Baptist Church. She was previously a bakery demo worker at Sam’s Wholesale Club, a pie baker for Swartz Restaurant, and a baker for Decatur Public School District and the Decatur Club. She also worked as manager at Kirlin’s Hallmark, Fairview Plaza and was seasonal help for Fannie May Candy. Surviving is her daughter: Janet Alred of Decatur; son: Brian Minott and wife Joanni of Decatur; nine grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren; sisters: Mary Culaciati of Texas and Janet Foster of Alabama. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Fern was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, children: John, Cheryl and Carol; brothers: Fred, Marion (Tince), Calvin, Robert and Paul; sisters: Evelyn and Bernice; and sons-in-law: Larry and Keith.
