Evelyn Hayes

Evelyn L. Hayes, 94, of Decatur, died Thursday, February 9, 2017, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Moundford Free Methodist Church. Visitation will be 5-8 P.M. Friday, February 17, at the church. A private family graveside will be held at Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Moundford Free Methodist Church.Evelyn was born June 18, 1922, in Oakley, IL, the daughter of Wilbur C. and Jennie (Hayes) Lichtenberger. She married Melvin W. Hayes January 24, 1947 in Decatur. He preceded her in death April 14, 2000. Evelyn worked for the Farm Bureau of Decatur, and later worked for the Decatur Public School Food Service. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, especially pie baking, and she liked playing word games. Evelyn was a member of Moundford Free Methodist Church.She is survived by her daughter Cynthia J. Christiansen and husband Carl R. of Decatur, granddaughter Kelly E. Tamberino and husband Greg, great grandson William Tamberino, step great grandson Michael Tamberino, all of Brentwood, TN, sister Janet Devore of Decatur, and many loving nieces and nephews.Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and six sisters.
