Eve L. Thompson passed away on July 7, 2016, at Fair Havens Christian Home, Decatur, IL.Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Forest Park, IL. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, is handling the arrangements. She was born Evodea Lennea Barthell on July 17, 1917 in Larsmont, MN to Andrew and Hannah Barthell. Eve moved to Chicago as a teenager and married William H. Matas. They moved from the Chicago area and lived in Fox Lake, IL, with their four sons, until William passed away in 1972. In 1978, Eve moved to Peoria, Arizona. She eventually became a “snowbird” with a summer residence in Knife River, MN. In 1986, she married Raymond Thompson who preceded her in death in 1992. Eve was happiest caring for friends and family. She was a great cook and was especially known for her banana cream pie. In 2003, Eve suffered a stroke which left her in a wheelchair and with limited speech. She moved to Fair Havens Christian Home, Decatur, IL in 2004 where she has resided since. The family wishes to thank the many staff members who have cared for Eve over the years. Surviving are her sons William (Joan) Matas of Silver City, NM, Gregory (Tena) Matas or Oreana, IL and Barry Matas of Tulsa, OK. Her grandchildren include Kim Matas of Tucson, AZ, Scott Matas of Copperas Cove, TX, Stacey (Tito) Arista of Santa Cruz, CA, Eric Matas, Randall (Amy) Matas of Phoenix, AZ, Ryan (Vickie) Matas of Decatur, and Kyle (Sarah) Matas of Warrensburg. Her great grandchildren include Ashley, Tucker, Kinsey, Michael, Persephone, Fiona, Quinn Matas, and Nolan Arista. She is also mourned by nieces and nephews from the Barthell family.She was preceded in death by her son Bruce Matas, husband Ray Thompson, husband William Matas, and her two brothers Walter and Milton and two sisters Violet and Mildred.
