Essie Pearl Wikoff-Hicks went quietly to heaven in her sleep May 31, 2016. Visitation will be 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 3, 2016 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Graveside services and burial will be at 3:30 p.m., Friday, June 3 at Ware’s Grove Cemetery, Butler, IL. Essie was born December 26, 1922 in Butler, Illinois to Benjamin Merrell Wikoff and Lillie Alexander Wikoff. She graduated from Hillsboro High School and married Tony Lloyd Hicks shortly after high school. Essie spent her early adult life farming, raising chickens, Collies and Beagles. She truly loved animals. Essie worked hard for many years providing housekeeping services for several customers. After retirement, she won many awards for her volunteerism. Among the charities she worked for, sometimes as much as 6 days a week, were DMH and Catholic Charities. She is survived by her three children, Mary (Ross) Doll of Decatur, John (Karen) Hicks of Oreana, and Debra (Dennis) Beaman of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Joseph Doll of Decatur, Teri (Richard) Bailey of Mt. Zion, Cheryl Doll Leary of Danville, Michael (Dana) Beaman of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Tony (Brandi) Hicks of Decatur, Amy (Tommy) Fricks of Alabama, Stephen Hicks of Oreana, and David (Courtney) Hicks of Charleston. Essie was also blessed with 9 great grandchildren with 2 more coming soon, and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by one sister, Esther Wikoff Hess and one brother, Howard Wikoff, as well as both parents. Essie was a loving mother, grandmother, and a truly giving person. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. The family would like to thank the staff of Eagle Ridge where Essie lived for 2 years as well as the staff of McKinley Court who provided respectful care to Essie until her passing "
