Elva Elizabeth Wenger, 97, of Decatur, passed away at 1:18 p.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 17, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1 Bachrach Ct. at Taylor & Mound Rds., Decatur, with visitation at the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL. Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Homes, Decatur, are assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Choir Ministry or Habitat for Humanity. Elva was born June 5, 1915, in Chestnut, IL, the daughter of Gustav and Lillie (Stoll) Koenig. She married John "Red" Wenger on April 19, 1941, in Decatur. He preceded her in death on February 28, 2012. Elva was a secretary for St. Paul's Lutheran Church, for the Central Illinois District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and for the Decatur Public Schools. She enjoyed sewing, needle work, reading, traveling, bowling, and spending time with her children and their families. Homemade pie crusts and mincemeat will never be the same. Surviving are her daughter Janet (Jim) Bramer of Decatur, IL; sons John (Monika) Wenger of Winter Springs, FL, and Steve (Karen) Wenger of Decatur, IL; six grandchildren: Eric (Amy) Bramer, Wyatt & Charlotte, Jason (Joleen) Bramer, Gabrielle, Grant & Dane, Michael (Amy) Wenger & Josh, Matthew (Lindsey) Wenger & Zephram, Andrew (Linda) Wenger, and Philip (Jen) Wenger & Amelia; three step-grandchildren: Kevin Bramer & Cale, Kelly (Ann Marie) Bramer, Ben, Max, & Stephanie, and Jody (Bill) Hunt & Katy. Elva was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and one brother. The family would like to thank Dr. Fritz for his many years of kindness and compassionate care.
