November 29, 1918 — April 24, 2015

Elsie Whitten, 96, of Decatur, IL, formerly of Oreana, IL, went home to be with her Lord in Heaven Friday, April 24, 2015, at Heartland Health Care, Decatur, IL. Celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m, Wednesday, April 29, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until service time and also 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at the funeral home. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, in Glendale Cemetery, Fillmore, IL. Memorials may be made to: Calvary Baptist Church on North Country Club Road, Decatur, IL or the Alzheimer's Association. Elsie was born November 29, 1918, in Bingham, IL, the daughter of Samuel Nathan and Pluma Faye (Mason) Grigg. She married Casey Edward Whitten on May 18, 1939, in St. Charles, MO. He preceded her in death on October 27, 2004. Elsie was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a St. Louis Cardinals fan. Surviving are her daughters: Linda Shields (Bob) of Decatur, IL, Judy Hawkins and husband Norman of Chattanooga, TN; sons: Imer Whitten and wife Diane of Tampa, FL, Stanley Whitten and wife Sharon of Forsyth, Dr. Ken Whitten and wife Ginny of Tampa, FL; sister: Erma Lee Bitzer of Collinsville, IL; son-in-law: Charlie Jones of Boody, IL; sisters-in-law: Ila Grigg of Decatur, IL and Fern Grigg of PA; 16 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Casey, daughter Imogene Jones, sister Eunice "Eula" Faye, and brothers Archie, Arthur, and Arlie Grigg. The family wishes to thank Dr. Franklin and the staff of Heartland Health Care for their loving care given to Elsie during her journey. "
