Elmer “Butch” C. Highland, 72, of Decatur, died Sunday, October 16, 2016, in his home. Funeral services will be 12:00 P.M. Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. until service time. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown. Military Rites will be conducted by Macon County Honor Guard.Memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Butch was born January 23, 1944, in Mattoon, the son of Robert Gene and Marion Frances “Babe” (Tate) Highland. He married Martha Keith on June 12, 1971. Butch worked for and retired from IBM. He was a U.S. Army veteran in the Armored Division, and served during the Vietnam era. Butch was a member of Mattoon Lodge #260 AF & AM, Valley of Springfield Scottish Rite, Ansar Shrine, a lifetime member of the Hillbilly Shrine Club, lifetime member of the Swords of Bunker Hill, and Vice President of the Dune Buggies Shrine Unit. Butch is survived by his wife: Martha Highland; children: Heather (Dan) Groves, Carissa Sinnard, and Dana (Matt) Wildman; six grandchildren; brothers: Michael “Mick” (Linda) Highland, William “Bill” Highland, and James “Jim” (Marlene) Highland; sisters: Linda Sharma and Frances (Steven) Dulaney. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Onkar Sharma, M.D. "
