Ella Anna Heidemann, 97, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Fair Havens Christian Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 25, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church. Ella was born November 29, 1915, in Tampa, Kansas, the daughter of John and Helena (Ottensmeier) Backhus. She married Arthur Frederick Heidemann on November 9, 1941, in Tampa, Kansas. He preceded her in death. Ella was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she was an active volunteer, which included preparing braille readings for the blind. Ella retired as head cook at Lutheran School Association in 1974 after 10 years of service. She enjoyed spending time with her grandsons and sewing. Surviving are her children: Ellen (John) Hill of Algonquin, IL, Albert (Jane) Heidemann of Aurora, IL, Jenette Heidemann, and Dewayne Heidemann, both of Decatur, IL; grandchildren: Christopher, Michael, Daniel, Joel, Andy, Noah, and Scott; nine great-grandchildren; sisters: Alma Meyer and Frieda Bentz, both of Tampa KS; brothers: Harry (Elaine) Backhus of Leavenworth, KS, John Backhus of Enterprise, KS, and Wilbert (Donna) Backhus of Tampa, KS. Ella was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and five brothers. "
