Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 2, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with visitation 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials may be made in honor of Al to the donors choice or the Northeast Community Fund. Elbert (Al) was born on October 16, 1938 to Aylett and Emily Crane Wimmer in Rush County, IN. He graduated from New Salem High School in New Salem, IN. He attended Indiana State University and received both a B.A. and a Masters Degree in Elementary Education. He also spent two years in the United States Army in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He taught for six years in Indiana and fifteen years for the Decatur Public Schools teaching fourth, fifth, and sixth grades at Southeast and Garfield Schools. On June 5, 1969, he married Nadine Tillman in Vandalia, IL. Al played trumpet in college bands and in the army. He took many photos and participated in activities of the Decatur Camera Club for a number of years. He sang for several years in the Decatur Chorale. Al also enjoyed exercise and long walks in the woods. He supported nature groups such as the Decatur Audubon Society, the Sierra Club and the Nature Conservancy. He became interested in ballroom dancing. He and Nadine took lessons and, for as long as he was able, enjoyed going dancing regularly where they made many friends. He was a longtime Chicago Bulls and Cubs fan. He was affiliated with Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church for many years where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He later worshiped at First Presbyterian Church in Decatur. He is survived by his wife; daughter, Amanda Lorraine Wimmer and her partner, Tom OBrien, Washington, D.C.; son, Bracken Tyler Wimmer, Champaign, IL; sister, Patricia Meurer and her husband, Bob of Indianapolis, IN and Dorothy Tiemeyer, Columbus, IN. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Velma Wimmer, Greenwood, IN; Betha Wimmer, Shelbyville, IN; Glenda T. Hauser and her husband, Edward of Tabernacle, NJ. He is survived by seventeen nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Robert, John, Joseph, and Lawrence and sister, Marjorie Fritz. He was also preceded in death by sisters-in-law, Dorothy Brown Wimmer and Martha Drake Wimmer and brother-in-law, Marshall Tiemeyer. "
