Edward Schlieper

March 6, 1917 — January 1, 2008

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 8, 2008, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 5 to 7 P.M., Monday, January 7, at the funeral home. Graveside service and burial will be 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, January 8, in Upper Alton Cemetery, Alton, IL. Memorials may be made to Decatur and Macon County Animal Shelter Foundation.Mr. Schlieper was born March 6, 1917, in Hamburg, IL, the son of Carl Otto and Margaret (Crader) Schlieper. He was a partner of Huss and Schlieper, Inc. and was a member of the Illinois Grain Dealers Association. Mr. Schlieper attended Millikin University, where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He graduated from the University of Illinois, in 1940, with a degree in mechanical engineering and was a member of the American Society of Engineers. Jerry was a member of Kiwanis Club, for over 50 years, member of Golden K, Decatur Club and South Side Country Club. He served as an elder and deacon of Westminster Presbyterian Church, having been a member for 52 years. Jerry married Dorothy Clark on December 24, 1941. She preceded him in death in July 1998. He later married Lois Gonwa on June 7, 2003.Surviving are his wife, Lois; daughter Judith Sheryl Laronge and husband Thomas of Battle Ground, WA; grandchildren Rebecca Sheryl Smith and husband Alan of Columbia, TN, Susan Chrysan Carlson and husband Scott of Villa Rica, GA, Trevor Allen Bower of Renton, WA; 7 great-grandchildren; stepdaughters Judith Mason and husband Terry of Decatur, IL, Carol Bernard and husband Steve of Couder Sport, PA; 4 stepgrandchildren; sisters Valera Whyte, Betty Montgomery, Patricia Schiber, Marjorie Turnquist and husband Nels; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Clark Schlieper.The family of Jerry Schlieper gives special thanks to Dr. Richard Fritz and the DMH 6400 nursing staff. "
