Dolly was the 4th child of the family born on that day of the year. She graduated from Cerro Gordo High School in 1951, and Illinois State University in 1955. She taught at Bethany High School where she met and wed her husband, Melvin E. Jackson February 23, 1957. Dolly loved her teaching jobs that were interrupted by her most cherished children, Michael and Matthew. She also taught at Eisenhower High School in Decatur, Bement and Cerro Gordo high schools. Through her career of service, she held positions as scout leader, PTA President, Election Judge, Bowling League President, President of the Alpha Zeta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, and a Past President of Cerro Gordo Women’s Club. When Women’s Club President, she helped develop the scholarship fund, beautification fund, and the year’s major fundraiser, spring flower sales. She is survived by her sons, Michael Eugene (Susan) of Lake Geneva, WI, and Matthew Eric (Debra) of Decatur; grandson Andrew Eugene of Lake Geneva; step-granddaughters Kimberly and Kassandra Swearingen of Decatur. Her parents, husband, four brothers, Lloyd, Lawrence, Lynn and Loren, three sisters Mary Morton, Beulah Hendrix, and Lora “Toone” Gisinger, nieces Ruth Ann McClelland and Karen Sue Morton preceded her in death. Mom leaves behind her special cat-friend, Jetta. Mom encouraged us to be the best we could be and find something in life that we all really loved. She will always be by our sides and in our hearts.
