Visitation: 2:00 PM on August 14, 2011 Funeral: 10:00 AM on August 15, 2011 Doug Snyder, 61, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2011. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 15, 2011, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 2 to 7 P.M., Sunday, August 14, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Special Olympics Illinois or Donor's Choice. Doug was born in Saugerties, New York on October 27, 1949, from the union of Harold and Jaquelyn Snyder. He married Nancy Dickson in 1972. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Drake University in 1973 and then began his professional career with the State of Iowa. He followed this with a position at Archer Daniels Midland Company. The last 22 years were spent as CEO of Special Olympics Illinois. Doug's primary passion was his life with Special Olympics. He helped build Special Olympics Illinois into one of the most respected programs in the world with a constant focus on the athletes. He played a significant role at the national and international level having served two terms as Chairman of the North American Association of Special Olympics Professionals, a term on the Executive Committee of the United States Leadership Council (USLC) and many years as a member of the USLC Finance and Development Committee working in support of regional and national fundraising initiatives. Doug was given the Knights of Columbus State Deputies Medallion this past year. In his spare time, he relished his days on the golf course, traveling and woodworking. He held a special place in his heart for his cats, TING & YOYO. He is survived by his wife Nancy, mother Jacquelyn, brothers Lee (Deanette), Paul (Carolyn), a host of nieces and nephews, friends and his Special Olympics family. He was preceded in death by his father and a special aunt. "
