Dorothy "Dottie" Earlene (Heicke) Scholes, 85, of Decatur died July 16, 2021. There will be a private family graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Central Christ Care Stitchers-Project Linus, Macon Resources, and the Alzheimer's Association. Dorothy was born June 14, 1936, in Kewanee, IL, the daughter of Ralph and Earlene (Peck) Heicke. Following graduation from Decatur High School, Dottie met the love of her life, Roger W. Scholes. Dorothy and Roger were married Christmas Eve, December 24, 1954, in the old Central Christian Church by her grandfather Rev. Rudolph Heicke. Roger and Dottie had three children - Deborah, Randy, and Paul. Dottie was busy as a wife and stay-at-home mom. She was also active in the Cub Scouts as a den mother. She was a talented oil painter and became active in the Barn Colony Artists of Decatur. The family moved to Forsyth and joined Crestview Christian Church. Randy attended Gastman School in Decatur and Dottie served as PTA President. During her term, she helped establish Summer School for Special Education students in the Decatur School District #61. Over the years, Dottie worked in several secretarial positions. Most notably, as the secretary for the Dean of Milllikin University's Tabor School of Business. She retired in 1993. Dottie took great pride in giving back to the community. She was a member of the Caterpillar Retirees Club and Millikin Retired Secretaries Club. She was a deacon and Stephen Minister at Central Christian Church, where she was also in the Singer's Choir and Chancel Choir. She also became a member of Decatur Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Good Friends sewing group, Classmates luncheons, and Millikin Ladies Bridge Club. Dottie joined Central Christian Christ Care Stitchers-Linus Project making quilts for terminally ill children. This was the most gratifying project for her. In addition to painting and quilting, Dottie loved to go to restaurants and movies with family and friends. She delighted in seeing the "fun" side of life and the laughter, always the laughter! Dottie was an avid traveler. In 1998, she and her daughter flew to Greece with church members, following the Apostle Paul's Travels, organized by Rev. Bill Nichols and his wife Claudine. Dottie traveled to Hawaii with Roger, went to Washington, D.C. with her granddaughter, and took a cruise through the Panama Canal with friends. She also enjoyed road trips to Kansas City to visit her son and grandsons. Surviving are her daughter, Deborah and husband (Jay) Seaberg of Decatur, IL; son, Paul and wife (Susan) Scholes of Leawood, KS; grandchildren Ryan and wife (Cortney) Seaberg of Kansas City, MO; Jennifer and husband (Kyle) Bauer of New Lenox, IL; Calaway and Hayden Scholes of Leawood, KS; great-grandchildren Avery and Sean Bauer of New Lenox, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ronald Ralph Heicke; husband, Roger W. Scholes; and son, Roger (Randy) Scholes. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Hickory Point Christian Village, especially Haven House, the Skilled Care Unit and Hospice for their loving care. "
