Dorothy was born in New Britain, Connecticut, on August 19, 1927. She was the daughter of Peter and Lucy Szymanowski. Dorothy married Edmond Arseneault in 1949, and he preceded her in death. Dorothy had one sister, Barbara(Bunny), married to Jerry Madigan, who also preceded her in death.
Edmond, Dorothy and family moved to Decatur, Illinois, in 1959, where they stayed until Dorothy moved to Bloomington later in life to be closer to her children.
Dorothy is remembered as a devoted mother to 5 children. Deb (Jim) Ginzkey of Bloomington, Patrice (Tom) Roarick of Bedford, Texas, Brett (Karen) of North Carolina, Heidi (Tony) Lauber of Bartlett, Illinois, and Brian of Bloomington.
She was also devoted to her Church - Our Lady of Lourdes in Decatur, where her five children attended, as well as St. Teresa High School, as her Catholic faith was that important to her.
Dorothy loved golf and working with her hands, be it in the yard or with a band saw or router - she had a talent for arts and crafts of any kind. She was a talented seamstress and cook, which can be attested to by her children. Sunday dinners were standard for the family and involved hours of preparation by Dorothy. Her father, Peter, passed his spaghetti sauce recipe down to Dorothy who then passed it on to her children. It is a cherished recipe, memory and tradition.
"Ganny" adored her grandchildren! Sarah (Jon) Burden, Annie (Pete) Czubak, Danielle Lauber, Jeffrey Lauber, Jack Lauber, Peter Areneault, Maggie (Justin) Damon.
Dorothy also had 5 great grandchildren, Josephine Burden, Genevieve and Charlie Czubak, Sophie Madden-Arseneault and Owen Damon.
Dorothy will be missed by many nieces and nephews in Connecticut as well.
On Friday, March 13, there will be a visitation at 10:00 a.m. before an 11:00 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Decatur. Burial will be at Boiling Springs Cemetery next to Edmond.
