Doris S. Paul, 85, of Decatur, passed away January 21, 2010 at 4:25 P.M. at Decatur Memorial Hospital.Private graveside services will be at Graceland Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, January 24, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church, with visitation immediately following at 4:00 P.M.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, D.O.V.E., or Habitat for Humanity.Doris was born September 7, 1924, in Staunton, Illinois, to Rev. and Mrs. Paul Schoppe. She attended Blackburn College and the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri prior to marrying her childhood friend and high school sweetheart, Festus Paul, in California, Missouri on June 2, 1946. She and her family moved from Sparta, Illinois to Decatur in 1957. Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all her knew her. She never knew a stranger. She was active in her church, First Presbyterian Church of Decatur, volunteered at both St. Marys and Decatur Memorial Hospitals, and donated many hours to the Good Samaritan Inn. She enjoyed activities at the YMCA and long walks and talks with her many friends.Found among her writings: How empty life would be without people to love; like death is the price we pay for living, grief is the cost of loving.Doris is survived by her husband Festus Paul of Decatur; son Dennis D. Paul and wife Beth of Decatur; daughter Jennifer L. Morgan and husband Randy of Oakley; son Jeff M. Paul and wife Pawn of Normal; grandchildren: Rebecca, Michael, Sara, Jessica, Rachael, Molly, Rook, Scout, Easton, and Kannon; great grandchildren: Chloe, Callie, and Mya; sister Grace Hall and husband Elwood of St. Charles, MO.She was preceded in death by her parents and son Michael Wade Paul.The family would like to express special appreciation to the nursing and support staff on the 6th floor of Decatur Memorial Hospital for their exemplary service, which was her home for almost five years.Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, is handling the arrangements.Condolences may be left to the family at www.brintlingerandearl.com "
