Donald E. Smith, 85, of Decatur passed away March 4, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospital, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, March 9, 2020 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with visitation one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Private family burial will be at a later date. Memorials in Donald’s honor may be made to Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post 105, or the Decatur Genealogical Society. Donald was born May 7, 1934 in Decatur, IL, the son of Parke and Gladys (Sebring) Smith. He proudly served our country in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. After serving in the Marines, Donald was a deputy at the Macon County Sheriff’s office for 2 years. He then worked as a clerk for Norfolk and Southern Railroad and did small engine repair work. Donald also enjoyed metal detecting. He was member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, the Decatur Genealogical Society, Disabled American Veterans, Sons of the American Revolution, and American Legion Post 105. He is survived by his son, Randal E. Smith (Joe Smith-Torres) of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Brittany (Aaron) Taft of Glen Ellyn and their children Carlene and a son on the way, Colton Smith of Blue Mound, Courtney Pryor and husband and 2 children, Bridget Mears and husband and 3 sons; and brother-in-law, Larry Weaver of Decatur. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bryan J. Smith; sister, Sharlene Weaver; and aunt, Ida Sebring.
