Donald R. Smith, Sr., 59, of Decatur, IL, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2017, at his residence.Visitation 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, February 2, at Heartland Community Church, Decatur. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 3, 2017, at Heartland Community Church, Decatur, IL. Burial will be in Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL. Memorials may be made to Heartland Community Church.Donald was born April 4, 1957 in Chicago, IL, the son of Charles Smith and Rae (Richter) Trader. He married Kathy Keller on February 6, 1983 in Decatur.Donald was a member and leader at Heartland Community Church. He was passionate about sharing the love of Jesus with others and seeing those people come to the Lord. Donald had an enormous heart for people and enjoyed discipling them and being involved in outreach ministries.Donald was a Fermentation Lab Technician for 20 years at Archer Daniel Midland. He was an outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and camping with family and friends. He is survived by his wife Kathy of 33 years; children Cyndi (Dwayne) Carrillo of South Carolina, Cadette (fiancé Korey Brisch) Cox of Decatur, Riley (Julie) Cox of Decatur, Jamie Michelle (Scott) Owens of Herrin, Donald Smith, Jr. of Decatur; 17 grandchildren, 1 great grandson.He was preceded in death by his parents, son Timothy, and sister Evelyn Moore.Donald loved his wife, children, and grandchildren with all his heart and will be missed by all who loved him.
