Donald M. Shields Jr. passed from this world on August 10, 2014. He was born to Dr. Donald and Mary Shields on February 9, 1927 in Kirksville, MO. Predeceased by parents and sister Martha Jean (Sue). Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, August 24, 2014, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 25, 2014, at Star of Hope Mausoleum in Graceland Cemetery. Entombment will follow at Star of Hope Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cancer Care Specialists of Central IL, 210 West McKinley Ave. Decatur, IL 62526. After graduating from Stephen Decatur High school, he served in the US Navy (Great Lakes Naval Station) as a corpsman during WWII. Then graduating from Wabash College he worked for Walgreens in New Jersey and Ohio. Upon returning to Decatur he met the love of his life... Joyce. They were married Aug. 7, 1955. As a salesman for auto dealers until joining Provident Mutual Life Insurance Co. he earned his CLU and was consistently recognized as a member of the Provident Leaders Club for outstanding sales and service. He also served the Decatur community as a Macon County Board Supervisor and Founding Sertoma Club member. His success enabled numerous travel opportunities and activities for his family. With Joyce as his companion he traveled extensively throughout the US and visited 16 countries. Activity's involved baseball (White Sox fan), football (Packer fan), golf, tennis, and a passion for fishing with his friends. He was an avid walker and could be seen almost everyday cruising the neighborhood cane in hand. Each morning he displayed the American flag in his yard demonstrating his loyalty to country, family and friends. Survived by wife Joyce, children... John significant other Leora, Scott wife Mary, Sally husband Dale, children, Aaron, Brendan, Keagan, Jordan: grandchildren, Blane fiance Teresa, Will fiance Brenda: niece Diane husband Bill children Elizabeth, Brent wife Jessica, niece Cindy husband Mike, children Emily, Brian, Shannon, Anne: cousin JoAnne child Lance, cousin Gloria, cousin Ramone wife Elaine, children Paul, Doug, Laura, cousin Garry wife Nancy, children Matt, Tom, cousin David wife Claudia: other relatives... Pat P, Tim, Audrey, Lauren, Alexandria, Amy, Dan, Zach, Jake, Piper, Tessa, Jinny, Steve, Matthew, Abby, Sebastian, Pat W., Doug, Kim, Linh, Susan, Mike, Liam, John, Skylar, Melissa, Cass, Sal, Nico, Josh, Jen, Sam, Teddy, Kathy.
