Donald E. Pflum, 67, of Forsyth, IL passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian burial will be on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013 at 11:00am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Decatur. Visitation will at the Brintlinger and Earl Funeral home in Cerro Gordo on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013 from 5-8:00pm. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Memorials made be made to the Pflum Family. Donald was born June 10, 1946 in Mattoon, IL the son of Harry C. and Florence (Strohl) Pflum. He married Judy Reynolds on March 23, 1968 in Florence, AL. Donald served in the Air Force and was a member of the Armed Forces Radio and Television division. He was a farmer and also worked in Farm Credit in Lincoln, IL, Decatur, IL and in Kentucky. Donald was a commercial banker in Taylorville, IL and Corydon, IN. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Donald graduated from the University of Illinois in 1968 where he played Basketball. He was a proud member of the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity. Don was a stand out all-around athlete at Cerro Gordo High School with many achievements which included setting the record in the 440-yard dash that stood for 30 years and the record in the 220-yard dash which still stands today after 50 years. His 8th grade track team at Cerro Gordo won the State Jr. High Track Meet. Earlier this year Don was inducted into the Illinois Fast-pitch Softball Hall of Fame. Surviving is his loving wife of 45 years, Judy. Son, Brian M. (Toni) Pflum of Peoria, IL, daughter Kelly L. Pflum of Decatur, IL; two grandchildren, McKenzie L. and Ethan E. Pflum of Peoria, IL. Also surviving are brothers Ronald C. (Soni) Pflum of Tampa, FL, T. Steven (Linda) Pflum of Neoga, IL, Michael T. (Lois) Pflum of Decatur, IL, and Larry L. (Debra A.) Pflum of Oakley, IL. Sisters Constance A. (Richard) Little of Brimfield, IL, Debra L. (Brian) Henningsen of Atwood, IL, Victoria S. Pflum, Jacqueline C. (Dennis) Hubbard of Poplar Bluff, MO, and C. Sharon Pflum both of Oakley, IL. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew, and a niece. Robert Brice, good friend and best man at Donald's son's wedding said of Donald, "One of the toughest guys I ever met. Any trouble, and he was a man you wanted in your corner. A banker who cared deeply about those less fortunate. A passionate progressive. Tough as nails, but full of compassion. He was the man!" "
