Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, June 24, 2010, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 6 to 8 P.M., Wednesday, June 23, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Macon Cemetery, Macon, IL, with military rites conducted by the Moweaqua American Legion Post.Memorials may be made to American Legion Post #475, P.O. Box 367, Dalton City, IL 61925, or to Gift of Hope.Donald was born August 15, 1920, in Oakley, IL, the son of Melvin and Dorothy (Nickey) Hoots. He married Beverly Bobbitt on October 25, 1947 in Dalton City, IL. Don worked as a laborer for A.E. Staley for many years. He was active with the Juvae Jazz Society and enjoyed woodworking and making crafts for St. Marys Auxilary. Don was a member of Lampstand Presbyterian Church, 50 year member of American Legion Post #475 and member of Masonic Lodge in Moweaqua.He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Beverly of Decatur, IL; daughter Mary Ann Carmichael and husband Paul of Lindenwood, IL; granddaughter Sarah Carmichael of DeKalb, IL; great granddaughter Emma Carmichael of DeKalb, IL; sister Shirley Allen of Moweaqua; brother-in-law Baird Boyer and wife Rosie of Arcola, IL; and his nieces and nephews who were all very special.He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Beulah Boyer, brother-in-law Harold Allen, and niece Louise Schinzler.The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Franklin and the extended family on 7th floor at St. Marys Hospital.
