Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, at Berea Christian Church, rural Mt. Auburn, IL. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, June 23, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, and also one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Berea Cemetery, Mt. Auburn, IL.Memorials may be made to Berea Christian Church CWF, American Heart Association, or to donors choice.Don was born on September 22, 1924, in rural Blue Mound, the son of Raymond O. and Anna May (Lawton) Elder. He married Veda Nadine Kern on June 17, 1950, in Decatur.Don worked as a machinist for Caterpillar Tractor Company for 27 years, retiring in 1986, and was a retired member of UAW #751. He was still actively farming in Blue Mound. Don was a member of Berea Christian Church, holding several positions, was past president of National and State A.T.A. Association and a member and past president of Osbernville A.T.A. Association #331, and was a past director and a 50 year member of Christian County Farm Bureau. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Veda Nadine of Blue Mound; children Gary Elder, Sr. of Pulaski, TN, Calvin Elder and wife Sandee of Mt. Auburn, IL, Alice P. Elder-Miller and husband Leland of Mahomet, IL, Veda D. Cooling and husband Donald of St. Joseph, IL, Raymond D. Elder of Blue Mound, IL; grandchildren Gary Elder II and wife Sarah of Pulaski, TN, Matthew Elder and wife Teresa of Pulaski, TN, Sean Elder of Spring Hill, TN, Lari Richards and husband Scott of Huntsville, AL, Lindsey A. Loschen and husband Ryan of rural Urbana, IL, Shelley E. Cooling of St. Joseph, IL, Brianne K. Elder of Mt. Auburn, IL, James B. Miller of Mahomet, IL; great grandchildren Cody J. Elder, Cordell D. Elder, John E. Elder, Shelby Scott, Joseph Richards, Charlotte Richards, Lucas A. Krumwiede, Lauren E. Krumwiede; sister Mary Zindel of Moweaqua, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins.Don was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Katrina, and sister Eloise Brown. "
